Most memorable performance:
“Stagecoach” (1939)
-Wayne’s break through role
-the most famous shot: the first shot of Wayne in the film, a rapid dolly shot in to a close-up as the actor cocks a rifle, among the most famous in cinema.

“Red River” (1948)
-One of the rare roles as a villain (Tom Dunson)
-His performance is gripping, leopard-eyed and jaw-clenching

Their role in their performance cross over their lives:
“The guy you see on the screen isn’t me”
No, he is not. Yet Wayne was living a lie. Behind closed doors the man born Marion Morrison was a restless, melancholy, troubled actor struggling to live up to the screen persona he had created, a bombshell new biography reveals.
He had three failed marriages and bad relationships with his children.
His second wife Esperanza Diaz accused him of infidelity, violence and emotional cruelty.
He smoked up to six packs of cigarettes a day (and then he got lung cancer in 1964), consumed heroic quantities of booze and food, and made harsh demands of those around him.
Wayne’s jingoistic patriotism was also his undoing.
